People love watching videos because unlike reading strings of text, it's dynamic and engaging. Being able to hear or see the expression of the person(s) talking and listen to their tone of the voice(s) are what make videos so popular and much more relatable!

In speaking of #storyboard, I am not referring to the usual point and shoot types of videos, but videos which require a certain level of editing, as well as audio visual elements and manipulations.
The challenge with developing a customized video can be daunting. After all, where do you start?
Tools for Creating a Video Storyboard
Adobe Creative Cloud offers storyboard templates for ease of creating a video project. Microsoft Word or PowerPoint are more accessible and can also be utilized. There are various storyboard creators available online (see hubspots' Best Storyboarding Software) that allows anyone to put together a video project quickly and easily.
To develop professional videos, a team includes writers, subject experts, artists and designers all need to work closely together.
Telling Your Story through Videos
Whether you are working on a branding or product video, the first step is to think of yourself as a storyteller by what it is that you are trying to convey to your intended audience? Why should people care and spend their time to watch your video?
The next step is to create a script and this is where thoughts are organized and laid out in a logical flow. It may start off with a simple list of outline or captions that follows a sequence of events. Each piece of the sequence may include words and visual elements.
For each of the scene, envision what it is you are trying to reveal including the types of visuals or images to help establish the tone and character.
For most of the published videos, try to keep the length to no more than 1 1/2 minutes tops. Make sure it ends strong and includes some takeaways.
Set project milestones. Review and edit and ask for feedback until the desired result is achieved.
Storyboarding Made Easy with Adobe XD Storyboard Template
This is a storyboard in UX, a tool that visually predicts and explores a user’s experience with a product. It presents a product very much like a movie in terms of how people will use it and is also great for video storyboarding.
Sample use case and best practices
Pose the use case or problem with a simple statement to give context and backstory.
Roughly sketch a thumbnail in each frame of the storyboard to tell the story. Emphasize each moment. It doesn’t have to be high fidelity but easy to understand.
Convey what the character feels during each step. Try to give a feeling for what’s going on in the character’s head.
Write caption describing each frame to give more context or revealing what the character’s thinking with thought bubbles.
Show and walk the team through the storyboard and answer any questions.
Create several renditions. Have your team vote on the storyboard that best captures your user and their situation.

Alternatively, Microsoft PowerPoint offers templates for creating storyboard. Simply type in "storyboard" in the template search and voila! A few templates of a storyboard will appear allowing you can choose any template you want to create a storyboard with.
Not subscribed any software tools? No worry. Just use Google Slides! See a Video below on how to get started with Google Slides to create storyboard.
Keep it Simple, to the Point; Short and Sweet
Most videos intended for a broader types of audiences should be no more than one and a half minutes long. The general public loses interest within the first few seconds of seeing something and that's why video ads tends to start with a personal and relatable statement to quickly capture the viewer's attention. If the introductory message doesn't appeal to the viewer or come across in a brief amount of time, it will simply be ignored or forgotten.
Additional Thoughts and Recommendations
Ever seen a well-produced video that inspired you or evoked certain emotional response? It helps to take notes of the reasons why you like these videos and what make them so appealing or successful. Going through such exercise and researches offer additional insights and inspirations for creating your videos.
Sometimes a video can be quite effective without any narration if the visual can speak for themselves. At times a concept or idea can be presented as illustrations or animations and work just as effectively. If narration is included, it's important to make sure that the voice of the speaker(s) is loud enough and the person (s) enunciate clearly. A professional voice talent can always be hired if necessary.
Your first storyboard will be a good learning experience in knowing what works and what doesn’t. Once you’ve gotten a handle on it, it becomes easier to start the process and allowing for the exploration of new ideas.
